It all started with my ask for a prompt, and prompt it did.

“Create a brand and design for a company that produces high-quality, handcrafted wooden furniture using sustainably sourced materials. The company specializes in creating unique pieces with intricate detailing and a focus on functionality and durability. The brand should reflect the company's commitment to quality craftsmanship and environmental responsibility, while also conveying a sense of elegance and sophistication.”

From that prompt, an idea was born. A brand that sells handcrafted wooden furniture and makes unique intricately designed pieces. This came with a focus on craftsmanship and environmental responsibility.

ChatGPT offered a few names to choose from to begin designing for. “Artisan Woodcrafts, Sustainable Designs, Earthy Elegance, Timbercraft and co., Forest & Field Furnishings.”

After a few minutes of working with each one it became evident to me which was a winner.

As the name was picked, the design developed fast. When asked for their market positioning and where they viewed themselves as competitors, the client AI remarked that it thought other brands like West Elm, Room & Board, and Crate & Barrel were the primary competition.

With this in mind, the branding took on a new life. Instead of the typical browns and greens of natural furnishing brands, this took on a more exciting plum and smokey color palette. This enabled it to enter a market space in the same realm and distinguish itself from the already black and white competitors.

With primary design work now out of the way, many ideas surfaced around where and how brand would be presented. This isn’t a brand that finds itself on the merchandise as much as it is used to help others find the merchandise.

This meant versions that were square, versions that were horizontal, this meant brand elements that further made the brand stronger. This also meant that we needed brand guidelines, and fast.

Brand guidelines went up quick with the focus being on establishing the new brand. When brands are established it is better to have strict rules in place to help cement brand strength. Changing things down the line won’t cause as many problems than one straight at the beginning.

Other samples were created on how to use the brand. This included the brand elements that were made to help enhance the logo instead of other elements.

With this final step, the brand was completed. At least as much as they could be. As chatGPT couldn’t review the work, it was sent to peers to review and look at. With each round being done on behalf of the eyeless AI.
