The YMCA of Greater Cleveland

2021 Website Redesign

How do you rebuild a website from the ground up? You remove the elephant first.

Pink Elephants aside, the YMCA of Greater Cleveland Redesign began as a glorified audit into everything wrong with a website. From blatant design, tech, security, and reciprocity flaws; there was only one way to go.

Step one was Discovery. Everything the current site did well, everything it didn’t do, and everything it shouldn’t be doing. We found obstacles we never had the ability to think about solving like client funnels, 404 links in the hundreds, and entirely outdated pages for YMCA branches that hadn’t been around for years.

Step two was researching and interviewing. This was a managerial stress test for the ages. Finding a developer who would take on a nonprofit, could exist within our budget, and solve the problems we presented. Fortunately we found our unicorn and we were off to the races.

Step three was racing that unicorn for 5 months to produce the website we know today. We created an entirely new landing page with a better use of the real estate and brand compliance, a functioning map tool that worked with mobile devices for YMCA newbies looking for their branch, and a functioning membership builder that helped people build their ideal membership price.
